How much hamster safe soil do I get?

In this bag you'll get 1 litre of ready made hamster safe coco soil.

1 litre of ready made hamster safe soil weighs around 317g but the weight varies depending on how wet or dry it is when it's weighed which is why I sell by volume rather than weight.

There is enough soil here to fill two small ish substrate dishes. I've found it's enough to fill one substrate bowl and then have some left to top up the soil from time to time after spot cleaning.

What are hamster soil sprinkles?

You can choose to add a bag of soil sprinkles to your order. It's around 80g of mixed grains that are safe to sprinkle in soil. Sprinkle them in your hamster's soil and they will likely have fun digging them out. Any that get missed by your hamster are likely to sprout, meaning hamster safe grasses will grow in your hamster's soil and they can have fun chewing them and picking them out. It's a fun way to add extra enrichment to your hamster's substrates.

How can I use hamster safe soil with my hamster?

Soil is great for promoting digging and sensory play. It's a cooling substrate in summer and it can be used to grow hamster safe plants.

I have used soil with Flamey for a while. He absolutely loves it. He has two substrate bowls with it in. To encourage use and something to do, I usually put a wheatgrass plant in the corner for him to chew on and I sprinkle seeds in the soil too which over time, sprout to become micro greens, but in the meantime gives him something to forage on while he's in there.

Is this soil hamster safe?

Yes. The soil is natural coconut coir so it's made with coconuts and nothing has been added after. There are no chemicals, dyes, fertilisers or additives in this soil, it is ph neutral. Once made up and bagged, the soil is frozen at -20°c for 48+ hours, so you can use it straight out of the bag with confidence. No need to freeze before using.
