Coco chips

These fine grade coco chips are made of coconut husks and they're safe for hamsters.

How many coco chips do I get?

There's 100g of coco chips included in a standard bag which is a decent amount. Because they're very dry they're quite light, so you get a lot for 100g.

Are these coco chips hamster safe?

Yes, they're made of natural coconut husk and nothing else is added to them. They've also been baked at about 140°c for over an hour so you can use them straight out of the bag with confidence. No need to freeze or bake before using.

How can I use coco chips with my hamster?

They make an interesting substrate for hamsters to both dig and forage in. Flamey enjoys his coco chips, he's a fan of chewing them and shredding them, so they're good to promote natural chewing and wearing down of teeth too. He likes to forage in them, sit in them, dig in them and also to carry them around his cage inexplicably. When I'm cleaning I'll often find just one or two that he's taken back to bed with him.

They are very absorbent so are quite good to put around soil or water to absorb any spillage and to wick moisture away from those things into the coco chips. I will also include a PDF guide with helpful advice on how often they should be changed etc so you get the most use out of them.
