How do you grow the microgreens for your hamster?
Growing the microgreens is really easy, they take anywhere from one to two weeks to become grown enough for your hamster (or longer in the case of sunflowers).
Some of the seeds require soaking before hand, but most varieties of microgreens can just be sown directly into the soil.
All you have to do is put some soil in your pot, sprinkle the seeds in, then top it off with a little more soil. Water it every day until shoots appear. Full PDF growing instructions are given, and if you're uncertain of anything you can contact me for advice.
I'm rubbish at growing plants will these work for me?
I've had many customers who have said this, but they've all gone on to grow perfectly good microgreens for their hamsters! If you're not very confident with growing I'd suggest starting off with broccoli, alfalfa, red clover, purple cabbage or wheatgrass as they're the easiest to grow. The others are still easy to grow, but they take a little longer to come to maturity.
Is the microgreen kit safe for my hamster?
Microgreen sprouts are great for your hamster, they're high in vitamins and minerals and they're easily digestible.
The kit is fully hamster safe, I've been using various microgreens as enrichment for my hamster Flamey for months. The soil in this kit contains no fertilisers, or any additives, it has also been bagged and then frozen at -20°c for 48+ hours, so you can use the soil straight out of the bag with confidence, no need to freeze before using.
Flamey is a lover of microgreens, he's always got one in his cage! I tend to grow a few at once and then switch them out every day so that two are always being watered, that way they stay fresh for a long time and they last a bit longer.
Should I get microgreens for my hamster?
As well as being a great source of vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants for your hamster, these little microgreen plants provide hours or enrichment for your hamster. If you pop the pot in their cage, they'll have fun eating the plant, or digging it out of the pot and eating it in the case of a truly sassy ham, not to mention they look adorable!
