Why give my hamster meal worms?

Some hamster owners don't like giving their hamsters bugs, but hamsters are omnivores so it's great for them to get some insects in their diet. I was grossed out too at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly, especially when I saw how much the little guy loved them. Meal worms are a great source of protein and healthy fats. They are excellent for promoting forage and add some nice variety to your hamster's diet.

How many meal worms do I get?

You get 30g of hamster safe meal worms. This would usually last Flamey and I a few months months, you wouldn't want to feed them more than a couple a day.

How can I use meal worms with my hamster?

You can give them directly to your hamster as a treat, they're great for bonding if you have a hamster that loves them! They are a treat so you can use them like you would a treat. Put them into some toys to encourage your hamster to play with them or you can scatter them in a forage area and let your hamster pick them out. If your hamster has weight issues, regulate the amount of meal worms they get. If your hamster is pretty good at regulating their own weight you can scatter them around and let your hammy decide when they're in the mood for a worm.
