10g or 30g of hamster safe silkworm pupae. These have already been frozen at -20°c for 48+ hours so you can use them straight out of the bag.
Why give my hamster silkworm pupae?
Silkworm pupae are a high-protein, high-fat snack that lots of hamsters go wild for. They're less buggy-looking than crickets (think little nuggets) and they’re a brilliant way to support your hamster’s dietary needs as an omnivore. I’ll admit, the look of them took me by surprise at first but now I’m a total convert. And Sylvie is obsessed.
How many silkworms do I get?
You get 10g or 30g of silkworm pupae. They’re quite dense and a little bigger than a cricket, so a little goes a long way. One pupae every few days or even once a week is plenty.
How can I use silkworm pupae with my hamster?
Use them the same way you would a treat, for bonding, foraging, or popping into enrichment toys. They’ve got a strong smell that helps your hamster sniff them out easily, making them a great sensory experience too. You can scatter them in a dig box or mix them into foraging substrate. I like to bury Sylvie's just under her substrates to encourage her to dig for them.
