This complete Syrian hamster food has been carefully enriched with additional protein and fat to support gradual, controlled weight gain.

It isn’t ordinary food with a handful of sunflower seeds and mealworms thrown into it. The protein and fat have been increased proportionally across a varied formulation, helping your hamster gain condition while still receiving the grains, vegetables, fibre, herbs and enrichment they need.

Because healthy weight gain should mean rebuilding the hamster—not simply making dinner as fatty as possible.

Which hamsters is this food designed for?

This food is intended for Syrian hamsters who have a genuine, established need to gain weight or rebuild lost condition.

Situations where it may be appropriate include:

• A newly rescued hamster who has previously been underfed.

• A young hamster or runt who is struggling to gain condition as expected.

• A hamster who has recently recovered from illness and needs to regain weight lost while they were unwell.

• A hamster who temporarily lost their appetite but is now eating normally again.

Before using this food, you should be confident that the reason for your hamster’s low weight has been identified and that any underlying illness has been appropriately investigated.

Unexplained weight loss, continued weight loss despite eating, difficulty chewing, reduced appetite or other signs of illness should be discussed with an experienced vet.

Why is this food good for hamsters who need to gain weight?

Healthy weight gain involves more than simply increasing fat.

This formulation contains additional high-quality animal protein from chicken, shrimp, mealworms, silkworms and black soldier fly larvae, alongside protein from seeds, grains and plant ingredients.

Protein has been increased to help support the body as condition returns, while a proportionate increase in fat provides additional energy.

The mix still contains a broad base of whole grains, vegetables, leaves, herbs and fibre. It remains a complete, varied food rather than becoming a bag dominated by oil seeds and fatty insects.

When eaten consistently, the formulation is intended to support gentle progress, often around 1g over one to two weeks rather than rapid weight gain. Every hamster is different, so this is a guide rather than a guaranteed result.

Food to stimulate your hamster

Hamsters who are recovering or rebuilding condition still need food to be interesting.

This mix contains a broad variety of grains, seeds, vegetables, herbs, flowers and animal proteins, providing plenty of different scents, shapes and textures to investigate.

Richer ingredients are distributed throughout the mix rather than concentrated into a separate topper, encouraging your hamster to forage and eat from the complete formulation.

Scatter feeding is still encouraged, although using a bowl or placing food near your hamster’s nest may be more appropriate if illness or reduced mobility makes foraging difficult.

Is this food suitable for elderly hamsters losing weight?

Not necessarily.

Gradual weight decline can occur in elderly hamsters even when they continue eating normally. It can be associated with illness, age-related changes or difficulty absorbing and using nutrients.

An elderly hamster who is steadily losing weight should be assessed by a vet. In some cases, a nutritionally dense recovery supplement may be more appropriate than simply changing to a richer dry food.

This mix may still be recommended for an older hamster in particular circumstances, but age-related weight loss shouldn’t automatically be treated with weight-gain food without considering the cause.

Is the food mix safe for Syrian hamsters?

Yes. Every ingredient has been carefully researched and selected specifically for Syrian hamsters.

This is a temporary weight-support formulation, not a treatment for illness and not an appropriate everyday alternative for a hamster who is already at a healthy weight.

Your hamster should be weighed regularly while eating this food so you can confirm that it is helping and recognise when it is time to transition back to an ordinary age-appropriate mix.

And as always, I’ve left out ingredients I personally don’t feel comfortable feeding, including soya and raw legumes.

All food is pre-frozen and packed into sealed pouches as a precaution against pests. If you accidentally leave the pouch open or store it near non-frozen grains, simply reseal and freeze for 48 hours before use.

Feeding Guidelines

Syrian hamsters typically eat around 1–2 tablespoons or 8–15g per day.

Introduce the food gradually over several days, particularly if your hamster has a sensitive stomach or has recently been unwell.

Weigh your hamster at least once a week using the same scales and, where practical, at approximately the same time of day. Record each weight so you can monitor the overall trend rather than relying on how your hamster looks.

If your hamster continues to lose weight, doesn’t begin gaining as expected or develops any other concerning symptoms, please contact an experienced vet.

Once your hamster reaches and maintains an appropriate weight and body condition, gradually transition them back to their usual age-appropriate food.

150g = approx. 10–18 days
300g = approx. 3–5 weeks

This temporary formulation is only available in 150g and 300g pouches. Please don’t over-buy; the aim is to return to an ordinary age-appropriate food once weight and condition have recovered.

Shelf life is 9 months, but fresh is always best.

Store in a cool, dry place and reseal after opening. Occasional hamster-safe fresh greens can be offered separately as part of a varied diet.
