Complete Syrian hamster nutrition, without the shrimp.
This food was created after a customer asked for a complete mix that didn’t contain Gammarus shrimp.
It can suit hamsters who consistently leave shrimp behind, hamsters whose owners are investigating a possible sensitivity with their vet, or households that simply prefer not to handle it.
The shrimp hasn’t just been removed and forgotten about. Chicken, insects, seeds and plant ingredients have been carefully balanced to preserve the protein, fat, fibre and variety Syrian hamsters need.
Because exclusions should involve proper formulation not somebody picking through dinner with tweezers.
This Syrian Hamster Food is made to order
This is one of our more specialist food mixes, so rather than keeping large quantities sitting on the shelf, it is freshly hand-mixed after you place your order.
Please allow up to 5 working days for your order to be dispatched. It will often be ready sooner, but during busy periods we may prepare several made-to-order foods together on a dedicated production day.
If you order other products at the same time, your complete order will be held and dispatched together once the food is ready.
Why is this food good for Syrian hamsters?
Syrian hamsters are omnivores and need a varied diet containing suitable sources of both plant and animal protein.
In this formulation, chicken, mealworms and black soldier fly larvae provide animal protein without the Gammarus shrimp found in many hamster foods.
Additional protein comes from seeds and plant ingredients, supported by a varied base of whole grains, vegetables, herbs and flowers.
Rather than allowing a few rich ingredients to dominate the mix, their proportions have been carefully balanced across the entire recipe. Your hamster gets plenty of variety, scent, texture and opportunities to forage while the nutritional profile remains appropriate for everyday feeding.
And as always, I’ve left out ingredients I personally don’t feel comfortable feeding, including soya and raw legumes.
Food to stimulate your hamster
Hamsters are natural foragers, and searching through a varied food mix is an important form of enrichment.
Different grains, seeds, vegetables, herbs, flowers and protein sources provide a wide mixture of sizes, shapes, smells and textures for your hamster to investigate and collect.
Tiny amounts of richer seeds, including sunflower and pumpkin, are scattered throughout the mix to provide exciting finds without allowing them to dominate the formulation.
Scatter feeding can make dinner last longer and encourage natural foraging behaviour.
Is the food mix safe for Syrian hamsters?
Yes. Every ingredient has been carefully researched and selected specifically for Syrian hamsters.
This formulation contains no Gammarus shrimp. It does contain other animal proteins, including chicken, mealworms and black soldier fly larvae.
Although no shrimp is deliberately added, this food is prepared in a workspace where shrimp is handled. It cannot be guaranteed free from traces and may not be suitable for households with a severe shellfish allergy.
If you suspect that your hamster has an allergy or is experiencing unexplained symptoms, please speak to an experienced vet rather than relying on a change of food alone.
All food is pre-frozen and packed into sealed pouches as a precaution against pests. If you accidentally leave the pouch open or store it near non-frozen grains, simply reseal and freeze for 48 hours before use.
