Gentle senior nutrition, without the shrimp.

This complete Senior Syrian Hamster Food contains no Gammarus shrimp. It was originally developed for a customer concerned that their hamster might be sensitive to shrimp, but it can also suit hamsters who consistently refuse it or households that prefer not to handle it.

Removing an ingredient from a complete food isn’t as simple as picking it out and hoping for the best. The formulation has been carefully adjusted, using chicken and other protein sources to preserve the nutritional balance while keeping the mix appropriate for an older, less-active Syrian hamster.

Because “no shrimp” shouldn’t mean “something important is now missing.”

This Senior Syrian Hamster Food is made to order

This is one of our more specialist food mixes, so rather than keeping large quantities sitting on the shelf, it is freshly hand-mixed after you place your order.

Please allow up to 5 working days for your order to be dispatched. It will often be ready sooner, but during busy periods we may prepare several made-to-order foods together on a dedicated production day.

If you order other products at the same time, your complete order will be held and dispatched together once the food is ready.

Why is this food good for senior Syrian hamsters?

Senior hamsters often need food that is a little gentler on the body while remaining nutritionally balanced, interesting and enjoyable to eat.

This mix contains a broad base of grains and vegetables to provide accessible energy for older hamsters who may be less active or find it harder to maintain their condition.

Chicken replaces the role shrimp would ordinarily play within the formulation, supported by mealworms, black soldier fly larvae, seeds and plant-based protein sources.

Because chicken is already included in the standard Senior Syrian food, the rest of the formulation has also been carefully rebalanced. This isn’t the usual recipe with one ingredient simply removed.

The overall mix remains intentionally familiar, making it easier to transition from another Syrian food. Your hamster still gets plenty of recognisable grains, vegetables, seeds, herbs and animal proteins, just without the shrimp.

And as always, I’ve left out ingredients I personally don’t feel comfortable feeding, including soya and raw legumes.

Food to stimulate your hamster

Even older hamsters deserve enrichment.

A broad range of grains, vegetables, seeds, herbs, flowers and protein sources creates plenty of different scents, shapes and textures for your hamster to investigate.

Tiny amounts of richer seeds, including sunflower and pumpkin, are scattered throughout the mix to encourage natural foraging and provide little moments of excitement without allowing them to dominate the food.

Scatter feeding can help keep dinner interesting, even when your hamster now approaches it at a more leisurely pace.

Is the food mix safe for Syrian hamsters?

Yes. Every ingredient has been carefully researched and selected specifically for Syrian hamsters.

This formulation contains no Gammarus shrimp. It does contain other animal proteins, including chicken, mealworms and black soldier fly larvae.

Although no shrimp is deliberately added, this food is prepared in a workspace where shrimp is handled. It cannot be guaranteed free from traces and may not be suitable for households with a severe shellfish allergy.

If you suspect that your hamster has an allergy or is experiencing unexplained symptoms, please speak to an experienced vet rather than relying on a change of food alone.

All food is pre-frozen and packed into sealed pouches as a precaution against pests. If you accidentally leave the pouch open or store it near non-frozen grains, simply reseal and freeze for 48 hours before use.
