This isn’t just adult food with a fancy label slapped on it. It’s a carefully adjusted senior-friendly blend, handmade in small, weighted batches to provide consistent nutrition while supporting the changing needs of older Syrian hamsters.

As hamsters age, they can become less active, lose muscle tone, and struggle to maintain weight or energy levels. This mix has been thoughtfully adapted to provide easier-to-access energy and slightly lower fat levels, while still keeping all the variety, scent, texture, and enrichment that makes food exciting.

Because getting old shouldn’t mean dinner gets boring.

This is one of our more specialist food mixes, so rather than keeping large quantities sitting on the shelf, it is freshly hand-mixed after you place your order.

Please allow up to 5 working days for your order to be dispatched. It will often be ready sooner, but during busy periods we may prepare several made-to-order foods together on a dedicated production day.

If you order other products at the same time, your complete order will be held and dispatched together once the food is ready.

Why is this food good for senior Syrian hamsters?

Senior hamsters often need food that’s a little gentler on the body while still being nutritionally balanced.

This mix contains slightly increased grains and vegetables to provide more bioavailable energy, helping older hamsters maintain condition without needing to metabolise high-fat ingredients as heavily.

I’ve also added chicken alongside insect protein sources to offer a softer, highly digestible protein option that many elderly hamsters find easier to utilise.

The overall formulation remains intentionally similar to the adult Syrian mix, so switching between the two is easy and familiar. Your hamster still gets the foods they recognise and enjoy, just balanced differently to better support them as they age.

And as always, I’ve left out ingredients I personally don’t feel comfortable feeding, including soya and raw legumes.

Food to stimulate your hamster

Even older hamsters deserve enrichment.

Tiny amounts of seeds like sunflower and pumpkin are scattered throughout the mix to encourage natural foraging behaviour and provide little moments of excitement during feeding.

Herbs and flowers like chamomile, plantain, parsley, and rose petals add scent, texture, and variety, because food should engage their brains as well as fill their cheeks.

Is the food mix safe for Syrian hamsters?

Yes. Every ingredient has been carefully researched and selected specifically for Syrian hamsters.

All food is pre-frozen and packed into sealed pouches as a precaution against pests. If you accidentally leave the pouch open or store it near non-frozen grains, simply reseal and freeze for 48 hours before use.

Senior Syrian hamsters typically eat around 8–15g per day.

150g = approx. 10–18 days
300g = approx. 3–5 weeks
500g = approx. 5–8 weeks
1kg = approx. 9–17 weeks

Please don’t over-buy. Shelf life is 9 months, but fresh is always best.
