Gentle nutrition for tiny hamsters who are beginning to slow down.

Roborovski hamsters may be small, but they’re usually extraordinarily active. As they grow older, however, their activity and nutritional needs can begin to change.

This complete Senior Robo Hamster Food keeps the familiar grains, grass seeds, vegetables, herbs and animal proteins found in the adult Robo mix, but carefully rebalances them for a hamster who is running less, sleeping more and moving through life at a slightly gentler pace.

This Senior Roborovski Hamster Food is made to order

This is one of our more specialist food mixes, so rather than keeping large quantities sitting on the shelf, it is freshly hand-mixed after you place your order.

Please allow up to 5 working days for your order to be dispatched. It will often be ready sooner, but during busy periods we may prepare several made-to-order foods together on a dedicated production day.

If you order other products at the same time, your complete order will be held and dispatched together once the food is ready.

When should my Robo move onto senior food?

There isn’t one birthday when every Robo suddenly needs senior food.

I recommend looking at your hamster’s behaviour rather than relying only on their age. If they’re still racing around, running regularly and behaving much as they always have, there may be no need to change their food yet.

A senior formulation becomes more appropriate when you notice a genuine change in pace: less wheel running, more sleeping, reduced activity or the gradual slowing down that often comes with age.

The important thing is the hamster in front of you.

Why is this food good for senior Roborovski hamsters?

Adult Robos need relatively high levels of protein and accessible energy to support their naturally active lives. When that activity begins to decrease, their food should change gently with them.

This formulation contains slightly less protein and fat than the adult Robo food, alongside a small increase in fibre. It remains nutritious and varied without being quite as rich as the food designed for a hamster in constant motion.

Rather than replacing the entire recipe, I’ve kept the mix deliberately recognisable and changed the balance between its ingredients.

Different grains, grass seeds, vegetables and protein sources have been adjusted to favour ingredients that provide accessible energy and plenty of variety. Pumpkin, broccoli, grasses and leaves contribute additional fibre to support the ageing digestive system.

Your Robo still gets the foods, scents and textures they know, just balanced differently for their changing needs.

And as always, I’ve left out ingredients I personally don’t feel comfortable feeding, including soya and raw legumes.

Food to stimulate your hamster

Older Robos may forage more slowly, but enrichment remains important throughout their lives.

This mix contains grains, grass seeds, vegetables, herbs, flowers and several forms of animal protein, providing a broad range of sizes, scents and textures to explore.

Small amounts of richer seeds and proteins are distributed throughout the mix to create rewarding finds without allowing them to dominate the overall formulation.

Scatter feeding is recommended wherever practical. Your hamster doesn’t have to be fast for foraging to be worthwhile.

Is the food mix safe for Roborovski hamsters?

Yes. Every ingredient has been carefully researched and selected specifically for Roborovski hamsters.

This food is designed for ageing Robos whose activity has begun to decrease. It isn’t intended as a treatment for sudden lethargy, unexplained weight loss or other changes that could indicate illness. Sudden or significant changes should always be discussed with a vet.

All food is pre-frozen and packed into sealed pouches as a precaution against pests. If you accidentally leave the pouch open or store it near non-frozen grains, simply reseal and freeze for 48 hours before use.

Feeding Guidelines

Feed approximately ½ - 1 teaspoon or 2 - 5g each day. Adjust the amount according to your hamster’s size, activity level and body condition.

Scatter feeding is recommended to encourage natural foraging behaviour.

Small food stores are normal. Check them regularly and only remove food that has become damp, soiled or spoiled.

150g = approx. 4–10 weeks
300g = approx. 8–21 weeks
500g = approx. 14–35 weeks
1kg = approx. 28–71 weeks

Please don’t over-buy. Shelf life is 9 months, but fresh is always best.

Store in a cool, dry place and reseal after opening. Occasional hamster-safe fresh greens can be offered separately as part of a varied diet.
