complete-senior-dwarf-hamster-food
Complete Senior Dwarf Hamster Food – Made to Order

Gentle nutrition for little ones who are slowing-down.

This senior dwarf hamster food was originally developed for Sylvie as she began getting older.

It isn’t an entirely unfamiliar recipe or ordinary adult food with a senior label added. It uses many of the same recognisable ingredients as the adult Dwarf Hamster Food, but they have been carefully rebalanced to better suit a hamster whose activity, digestion and energy needs are beginning to change.

Because getting older shouldn’t mean dinner stops being exciting.

This senior dwarf hamster food is made to order

This is one of our more specialist food mixes, so rather than keeping large quantities sitting on the shelf, it is freshly hand-mixed after you place your order.

Please allow up to 5 working days for your order to be dispatched. It will often be ready sooner, but during busy periods we may prepare several made-to-order foods together on a dedicated production day.

If you order other products at the same time, your complete order will be held and dispatched together once the food is ready.

When should my dwarf hamster move onto senior food?

There isn’t one birthday when every hamster suddenly becomes senior.

I recommend looking at your hamster rather than relying only on their age. If they’re still extremely active, running regularly and behaving much as they always have, they may not need a senior formulation yet.

Senior food becomes more appropriate when you begin to notice a genuine change in pace: less wheel running, more sleeping, reduced activity or the gradual slowing down that often comes with age.

The important thing is the hamster in front of you.

Why is this food good for senior dwarf hamsters?

As dwarf hamsters become less active, they may no longer need quite as much protein and fat as they did when they were younger.

This formulation contains slightly less protein and fat than the adult Dwarf Hamster Food, reflecting that reduced activity without making the diet sparse or restrictive.

Rather than replacing the whole recipe, I’ve kept it deliberately familiar and adjusted the balance between ingredients. This makes transitioning easier while providing more accessible sources of energy and protein.

For example, the proportions of different insects, grains, vegetables and lighter ingredients have been adjusted, while pumpkin and other fibrous plant ingredients provide a little extra support for the ageing digestive system.

Your hamster still gets the foods, smells and textures they recognise—just balanced differently for their changing needs.

And as always, I’ve left out ingredients I personally don’t feel comfortable feeding, including soya and raw legumes.

Food to stimulate your hamster

Slowing down doesn’t mean enrichment stops mattering.

This mix contains a broad range of grains, seeds, vegetables, herbs, flowers and animal proteins, giving your hamster plenty of different scents and textures to investigate.

Small amounts of richer seeds and protein sources are distributed throughout the food to create rewarding little finds without allowing them to dominate the formulation.

Scatter feeding is recommended wherever practical, even if your hamster now forages more slowly than they once did.

Is the food mix safe for dwarf hamsters?

Yes. Every ingredient has been carefully researched and selected specifically for dwarf hamsters.

This food is designed for ageing dwarf hamsters whose activity has begun to decrease. It isn’t intended as a treatment for unexplained lethargy, weight loss or other changes that could indicate illness. Sudden or significant changes should always be discussed with a vet.

All food is pre-frozen and packed into sealed pouches as a precaution against pests. If you accidentally leave the pouch open or store it near non-frozen grains, simply reseal and freeze for 48 hours before use.

Guaranteed Analysis (per 100g)

Crude Protein: 17.4%
Crude Fat: 7.5%
Crude Fibre: 10.6%

Feeding Guidelines

Feed approximately 1–2 teaspoons or 2–5g each day.
